The Contemporary Supernatural..

Ok, So I just watched the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries a few minutes ago and I am totally captivated by it all. The whole idea of supernatural beings existing amidst us is very intriguing. But Alas, it's all stemmed from a legend centuries ago! Yet one can't seem to lose themselves on this fascinating fantasy world. And it really does NOT help when the supernatural beings are depicted by total hotties! (aka Ian somerhalder and Paul Wesley from The Vampire Diaries, Robert Cullen and Taylor Lautner from the Twilight series, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt from Interview with the Vampire, Eric Northman and Stephen Moyer from True Blood and the like). Ian Somerhalder sure does take the cake! He's just the absolute package. I CANNOT stop raving about him!

Apart from the dashing men chosen for the roles, there is the whole superhuman aspect to it all..Shape Shifters, Vampires, Werewolves, and Doppelgangers all provide for a very enthralling watch indeed! They can live forever (OK,so its with strings attached, but whatever, they live even after they are technically dead!), have enhanced senses, incredible strength and move at lightning speeds, get resurrected, to just name a few! Oh boy, and how could I not mention, the most appealing fantasy romance ever! :D LOL!

So how do these "male" vamps manage to sweep any sensible girl off her feet? Well, he is usually exceedingly loyal, he neither intimidates nor is intimidated by the female lead, he doesn't notice other women, and he's totally unconcerned with what anyone else thinks of his choice. In today's world, with divorce rates and infidelity soaring, that combination of intensity and devotion, all wrapped up in a supernatural package, is like having your cake and eating too.

Or is it the lure of the impossibility of it all? Women today are juggling jobs, relationships, school, families and other responsibilities, without having much time or room for themselves. A fictional hero with mystical powers, lethal looks and a razor-sharp wit is the ultimate fantasy combination. The appeal of the supernatural bad boy can sometimes make everyday problems seem less dire. Thus, a few hours spent lost in the fantasy world of the villainous yet enticing hero is like going on a mini vacation!

Looks like the creature of the night has evolved from monster to the ultimate male fantasy, to capture many a girls' heart. Whether it's because of their wicked grins, disregard for rules, dedication to their love or the superhuman powers, the paranormal villain is definitely here to stay!
